Job description

Role: Assistant Controller

Reporting to: Director of Finance  

The Assistant Controller is accountable for the company's accounting operations, including overseeing financial statements, balance sheets, bank statement reconciliations, and cash flow. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller will be a valuable management team member, driving key accounting improvements and engaging with business leaders throughout the company on day-to-day financial and operational initiatives.

Primary Job Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions.

  • Managing the month-end close process for multiple units that roll into separate parent companies.
  • Perform final review of P&Ls and balance sheets for accuracy.  Ability to pinpoint and research variances.
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary to account for consolidated business results accurately.
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements.
  • Creating and managing the budget process.
  • Developing and evaluating internal control guidelines, policies, and procedures for budget accounting, cash and credit management, administration, and other activities.
  • Providing management with accurate information is vital to the decision-making process.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.
  • Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and professional standards. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years experience in accounting/finance
  • Experience in working with multiple entities under different holding companies
  • Must have Hospitality/Restaurant experience
  • Strong knowledge of R365 Financial Software
  • Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
  • Understanding of applicable laws and regulations
  • General ledger and other accounting systems experience
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in Excel
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to communicate financial information in sound business language so people of all levels can understand
  • Fluent in English
  • Must be willing to work from our office headquarters in Miami, Florida
